Novak Djokovic decides on working with Andy Murray – Sports News
Tennis legend Andy Murray is jetting off to California for a stint at the Indian Wells Masters with Novak Djokovic, who he’ll also be joining at the Miami Open later in March.
After helping coach Djokovic during this January’s Australian Open – unfortunately marred by an injury withdrawal in the semis against Alexander Zverev – the Scotsman will continue his coaching relationship with the Serbian star.
Djokovic seeks to rebound from a disappointing early exit at February’s Qatar Open as he enters the prestigious Indian Wells tournament, often dubbed the ‘fifth major’.
With Djokovic having lifted the Miami trophy six times, the duo’s collaboration has quickly become the talk of the tennis realm.
Taking on his first full-time coaching role, Murray’s alliance with former adversary Djokovic marks a surprising twist in their storied rivalry.
Murray’s fellow Brit, Emma Raducanu, is also making her return to action at Indian Wells. She was weighing up whether to play after being left visibly shaken up by a man who showed ‘fixated behavior’ towards her at last month’s Dubai Tennis Championships. The man was detained and given a restraining order, according to Dubai police.
Having climbed up to 55th in the WTA’s rankings, Raducanu earned direct entry into the Indian Wells women’s draw. The opening batch of main draw matches will be played on Friday, with Djokovic and Raducanu yet to learn their first-round opponents.
