German automaker Audi is reportedly contemplating plans to construct a manufacturing unit within the US to placate President Trump and skirt tariffs on overseas imports.

The luxurious model is weighing whether or not to construct a plant within the southern US, one of the more costly choices out of a quantity of eventualities being thought of, German information magazine Der Spiegel reported on Friday.

A spokesperson for Audi, which is owned by Volkswagen Group, mentioned the company is contemplating numerous choices when it comes to increasing its presence within the US. 

“We are confident that we will make a decision this year in consultation with the [Volkswagen] group on how this will look in concrete terms,” the spokesperson mentioned. 

Trump’s 25% tax on overseas automobiles and auto components has already hit German carmakers exhausting.

BMW has additionally mentioned including shifts and boosting output at its South Carolina plant to ease strain from Trump.

Several different main automakers have taken steps to ramp up US manufacturing since Trump has taken workplace.
