“Everything else kind of settles in second. And I think prior to that, it was always racing first. And I’ve missed out on a lot of good memories and opportunities by putting that first, and causing a lot of stress from within or the people surrounding me. I don’t hate to say it, but it took having a kid to realize there’s so much more to life.”

Though Wallace shared that the delivery of his son has relieved some of the stress that he felt on the monitor, the 23XI driver acknowledged that his spouse has needed to carry a lot of the heavy load back at home.

“I walk a little bit lighter, less stress. I say less stress, but it’s more stress because we’re busier than ever this year,” Wallace stated. “And my wife and I just talked about it, of how busy we are compared to five, six years ago and how we’re making it work. My wife is the absolute trooper throughout this whole deal. The six months have been nothing short of craziness for her.

“But she definitely takes it in stride and she has her days. We laid on the couch before I was heading to the airport for the first time, and she was just crying because it’s a lot. And it is a lot. It’s something where I’m in meetings all day and I’m at the race shop trying to do my side of things, and I don’t see all that she has to do.”

It hasn’t taken long for Becks to change into a good luck allure of types for Wallace, who’s secured back-to-back third-place finishes at Homestead-Miami and Martinsville. “The last couple weeks, I have gotten the blues, like nervous, throughout practice, qualifying, even in the race. I don’t know why, but we finished third the last two weeks, so hopefully they keep coming. It’s been working,” he stated.

“It’s exciting every time. And I think with the demands that our sport provides and the requests that it wants from you, you have to find the little joys in it. And these seasons are long. Our first off weekend is coming up here in two weeks – our first and only off weekend. So you have to find time to enjoy it.”
