As half of the strategic pivot, the San Francisco-based ride-hailing giant is considerably scaling back its distant work coverage—one other blow to Gen Z employees, who’ve come to cherish flexibility over 5 days behind an workplace desk.

“Global teams will be concentrated in our largest global hubs, NY and SF; regional teams in designated regional hubs; local teams in country hubs; and tech teams in tech hubs,” Khosrowshahi wrote.

Moving ahead, Uber expects solely about 1% of its workforce to stay absolutely distant, that means thousands of staff accustomed to working from home may as a substitute discover themselves tethered to at least one of the company’s designated hubs.

“We’ll also continue to reinforce compliance with our hybrid work policy, which requires three days a week in the office.”

The transfer places Uber firmly among the many main corporations tightening the screws on pandemic-era office flexibility, with youthful employees significantly more likely to really feel the shift.

Investors, in the meantime, appeared to love what they noticed.

Uber’s stock jumped 2.4% on Wednesday morning following the announcement.
