Denny Hamlin has made his feelings clear on Kyle – Sports News
Denny Hamlin applauded Richard Childress Racing for addressing Kyle Busch’s crew chief place by “hiring out of the company.”
Last week, Richard Childress Racing introduced that Jim Pohlman can be returning to the group and calling the pictures for the No. 8 Chevrolet in 2026. Hamlin, for one, is absolutely on board with the appointment.
“I think that’s probably the best option,” he stated on a latest episode of the ‘Actions Detrimental’ podcast. “Just a fresh set of eyes, right? I like that RCR is hiring out of the company versus promoting someone. More than likely, if someone was really really good within the shop, their their cars will be running better, right? And so bring in a new set of eyes that hasn’t seen this thing for a while.”
Pohlman beforehand performed a pivotal position in Richard Childress Racing’s analysis and development program during the initial rollout of the Next Gen car in 2022. Hamlin was effectively conscious of the experience he introduced, having recruited one of his friends, Billy Scott, to function Tyler Reddick’s crew chief at 23XI Racing.
“We recruited Billy Scott for the 45 back in the day was that, you know, he knew the NextGen car,” Hamlin defined. “He was part of the development when he was at RCR. He helped NASCAR with the development of the NextGen car. We thought we’d get a leg up by having someone uh who was familiar … He probably more than likely he worked with Billy Scott at some point on the development of the Next-Gen car.”
Most just lately, Pohlman has performed a pivotal position for JR Motorsports within the Xfinity Series whereas serving as Justin Allgaier’s crew chief. Since 2023, the pair have amassed 9 wins and the 2024 Xfinity Series championship, with the No. 7 Chevrolet driver actively preventing to punch his ticket to the Championship Four.
Speaking to reporters at Talladega Superspeedway, Busch — who actively finds himself mired within the longest winless streak in his Cup profession (90 races) — expressed his pleasure to hitch forces with Pohlman.
“I would say his passion and the leadership conversations that we had,” Busch stated of Pohlman. “You are not hiring a guy based off results in a Cup car. That is yet to be seen and made, but hopefully he’s the guy that can lead us in the right direction with not just the 8 car, but RCR as a whole.”

Last month, Busch’s former crew chief, Randall Burnett introduced his departure from Richard Childress Racing following months of hypothesis that he might sever ties with the group. He is now slated to hitch Trackhouse Racing and call the pictures for Connor Zilisch, who will make his full-time Cup Series debut in 2026.
According to Hamlin, the choice was best for each Busch and Burnett. “I think he needed a change. I think all parties kind of need a change, and certainly Kyle’s going through it right now,” the 44-year-old stated. “Certainly, the performance is not there,” Hamlin stated. “I am a believer that Kyle Busch still has the ability to go win races.
“I do think that his cars are off, but I don’t think they’re off to the extent that we’re seeing on Sundays. Like, I don’t know that Randall Bernett is making the car spin out every week or hit the wall every week … but certainly it’s not good. So I think everyone just wanted a change of scenery and they’re all going to get it.”
