Speed limits could be slashed in half from 60mph to simply 30mph on main UK routes beneath radical new guidelines being outlined by campaigners. A new Parliament petition is demanding limits be diminished on rural roads within the countryside as half of a main replace.

Campaigners have urged that rural routes have been “the most dangerous roads” with velocity the most important drawback. Previous information from street security charity Brake discovered that velocity is usually a “major factor in rural road crashes”. A research of single-carriageway rural roads discovered that simply a 10% increase in average velocity may end up in a 30% increase in deadly and severe accidents.

Rhiannon Vivian, the founder of the online petition, has confused the change to the velocity limits was important for street security.

Rhiannon stated: “I think the fact that drivers can legally do 60mph is absolute negligence and shows a disregard for human life. Rural roads account for well over half of all fatal crashes. Cyclists, motorcyclists and car drivers are more than three times as likely to be killed per mile travelled on a rural road than an urban road. Even if you are driving slowly, others may not be. I think this change is urgent.”

However, a new rule could affect a important chunk of the UK community with rural and minor roads accounting for more miles than many could realise. Statistics show there are round 213,800 miles of minor roads within the UK, making up the bulk of the street community.

Meanwhile, main roads corresponding to motorways and A roads account for simply 31,900 miles. According to earlier Government information, 76% of A roads, 81% of B roads, and 58% of C and unclassified roads have been deemed to be rural.

The ballot wants a staggering 10,000 signatures to obtain an official Government response, with slightly below 1,500 placing their identify to the motion to date. However, a hefty 100,000 signatures are required for the petition to be thought of for debate by MPs in Parliament.

The ballot is set to run till the tip of November, that means there are nonetheless a number of months left to signal up.
