Drivers urged to use cold aircon in car in | Tech News

It may sound insane when it’s freezing cold, raining, icy and even snowy on the market in December. But drivers are being urged to use their cold aircon this month to struggle a common downside – condensation.

There’s nothing more annoying, and truly, few issues more harmful, than having your car home windows or windscreen fog up whilst you’re making an attempt to drive, particularly when it’s darkish, cold and wet, removed from supreme circumstances in the primary place.

Then, when you add a thick layer of mist and condensation, it could possibly turn into downright hazardous.

There are even perils hiding in the way in which you deal with condensation, too. Simply working the engine, with the keys in the ignition, can invite thieves to opportunistically swipe and drive your car away, whereas cranking the heater from a cold begin is dangerous for the engine too.

But in accordance to motoring retailer Halfords, you may really use the aircon to demist your car, even on its cold setting.

It says: “Start the heater off on a cold setting and slowly increase the temperature while the air dries out. This is a more effective way of demisting your car than putting your heater on the highest setting and potentially overloading the car with hot and wet air straight away.

“Ensure your heater is blasted directly at your windscreen and windows, as this will heat up the glass and stop water vapour from condensing it again. Select the setting with three arrows pointing upwards.

“If your car has air conditioning, switch it on as it removes moisture from the air in the cabin. Using the air conditioners in combination with the heater will dry the glass more quickly.”

However, in case you have ice in your home windows, not simply condensation, you’ll need to use a bit of heat.

Halfords provides: “If your car windscreen is iced over, you will need to clear the ice off before setting off. This can be done by directing heat onto the windscreen, scraping the ice off the outside using a scraper or using specialist de-icer. 

“Some cars have electrically heated windscreen glass, so if yours does, switch it on. Never pour boiling water onto your windscreen as this can cause it to crack.”
