The DVSA has modified MOT assessments this week, with hundreds of garages affected by new updates. Officials launched new MOT tweaks earlier this week, with a major new rule coming into impact from Monday, August 3.

As of this week, MOT testers at 2,500 garages will have the ability to take pictures of vehicles and add them to a portal, serving to to discourage MOT fraud. The DVSA have defined that the new image system will cut back the risk of MOT certificates being issued the place no vehicle is current, assist vehicle identification verification and improve confidence in MOT testing throughout the UK.

The DVSA explained that a smaller phased rollout of the technology allows officials to monitor service performance, monitor how many testers are using the feature and minimise disruption to garages and MOT testers. Officials explained that further phases will be introduced and reviewed as the rollout continues.

Although the new image system is not mandatory, DVSA officials say they “strongly encourage” garages to start utilizing the characteristic wherever potential.
