Dale Earnhardt Jr. has apologized after his JR Motorsports driver, Carson Kvapil, celebrated his NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Pennzoil 250 victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a burnout on the hallowed Yard of Bricks.
Saturday noticed the 23-year-old secure his first NOAPS win at IMS, with Kvapil ending forward of full-time JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier in second. The win for Earnhardt Jr.’s group was made all of the sweeter by the truth that Ross Chastain and Chase Elliott got here third and fourth, giving JRM a one-two-three-four end, marking the primary time within the NOAPS that a group had accomplished a prime 4 end.

The burnout celebration at IMS has been a hotly debated topic for years. Allgaier performed the act after winning the same race back in 2018, with IMS president Doug Boles admitting the celebration took “an excessive amount of” effort to remove the tire marks from the bricks.
The legendary Kyle Busch also did a burnout after winning a NOAPS (the Xfinity Series) race at IMS back in 2015. He would also win the Cup Series race the following day, performing a burnout once again, only this time further away from the Yard of Bricks.
However, despite the fallout of Kvapil’s celebration, the 23-year-old’s win could not dampen Earnhardt Jr.’s delight at watching him win at IMS. Fighting back tears, Earnhardt Jr. said after the race, “Oh man, this has been a long time coming.
“He’s like a son almost. You know, you work with these guys for so long, and you work so hard. We work so hard with Josh Berry and all our drivers, and you just want them to have success.
“And he is, you understand, he is acquired to win to keep going. You’ve acquired to win if you wish to keep on this deal, and man, he acquired so close. So, I’m simply so, so joyful for him, for Travis, his dad.”
Kvapil added, “It means the world to me. It’s very emotional. I rode round on that lap backwards (after taking the checkered flag), and I sat there simply fascinated by all of the arduous work I’ve put in — me and my dad Travis — to get up to now.
“And the faith (team principals) Dale Jr., L.W. Miller and Kelley Miller put behind me to give me this opportunity — a second chance, I guess you could say, to come back at it this year….
“I’m going to strive to not cry an excessive amount of. I’ve already shed a few tears-just making an attempt to carry it collectively proper now.”
