The Formula 1 stewards have clarified their resolution to penalize Lewis Hamilton during the Mexico City Grand Prix. The British racer was scrutinized after he veered off monitor during a heated competitors with Max Verstappen, prompting the Dutchman to demand his rival’s punishment.

The stewards explained their decision in a separate document, stating: “Car 44 locked brakes, left the monitor at flip 4 and used the grass space whereas rejoining within the direction of flip 5.

“As the driver was unable to follow the route prescribed by the race director along the ‘yellow line’ due to an excess of speed, no breach of the race director’s notes is deemed to have occurred.

“However, by leaving the monitor and reducing the nook, the motive force gained a lasting benefit, overtaking car 1 [Verstappen] and failing to give back the place thereafter.

“The standard penalty for leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage is therefore imposed.”

Upon listening to about his penalty over the radio, Hamilton retorted to race engineer Riccardo Adami: “That’s such s*** man. The grip is so small there… the grip there is so low!”.

He appeared pissed off during media interviews and did not appear keen to have interaction an excessive amount of.
