Bessent mentioned he believed that Cook should be eliminated or step down if the allegations in opposition to her are true, and famous that she had not denied them.
Cook and her supporters contend that the fraud allegations are a pretext to take away her so Trump might appoint an ally to the central bank who would promote his coverage needs. Cook is suing Trump and the Fed, saying Trump didn’t have the legal authority to take away her.

Cook has mentioned that even when the allegations have been true, they’d not be grounds for elimination as a result of the alleged conduct occurred earlier than she was confirmed by the Senate and took workplace in 2022.
“I’ve been very surprised that the Fed has not done an independent review,” Bessent mentioned. “She hasn’t said she didn’t do it. She’s just saying the president can’t fire her. There’s a big difference.”
Bessent mentioned the Senate should act rapidly to verify Stephen Miran, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, for a non permanent post, changing Adriana Kugler who resigned on Aug. 1.
