George Russell unhappy with Mercedes bosses after | Sports News

George Russell has delivered a blunt message to his Mercedes workforce to “do it straight away or don’t do it at all” after the Silver Arrows left their star driver exasperated with hesitant workforce orders on the Mexican Grand Prix.

Russell discovered himself caught behind teammate Kimi Antonelli during the latter portion of Sunday’s race on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, with Lando Norris securing victory. The McLaren driver is now in control of the Drivers’ Championship leaderboard. The 27 12 months previous British driver made his initial plea to overhaul Antonelli on lap 35, adopted by one other appeal on lap 38, promising to return the place to his teammate if his pursuit of Bearman proved fruitless.

Following further heated radio exchanges with engineer Marcus Dudley, he was ultimately allowed by way of on lap 41. From that time, he battled to catch the Haas driver in fourth place, however could not close the hole and surrendered a place to Piastri, who executed a daring transfer at Turn One on lap 60.

Russell subsequently returned sixth place to Antonelli. Russell voiced his disappointment after the checkered flag.

“Yeah, I mean, I had a lot of pace in those laps and would have been able to attack Ollie, who had no DRS,” he instructed Sky Sports F1. “Obviously, I was in the DRS train behind Kimi. I think we left it 10 laps.

“By that time, my tyres overheated, my brakes had been overheating. The engine was overheating. So by that time, there was type of no level in doing it. It was both do it immediately or do not do it in any respect. So in the long run, we deserve to complete the place we did. A bit irritating.”

Russell wasn’t the only driver left exasperated with Mercedes’ management of the circumstances, though his frustration stemmed from different reasons than teammate Antonelli’s.

The young driver was blindsided when Peter Bonnington instructed him to switch positions and couldn’t grasp why the team made such a call at that moment.

“Well, I did not know he was asking that on the radio,” Antonelli revealed after stepping out of the cockpit. “I simply received the data from the workforce to make the swap into T4, which sort of caught me abruptly initially.

“But, yeah, I mean, I respect their decision. Obviously, we need to review, and I would like to understand the reason behind the decision in order to move forward and then, yeah, now we’ll focus on to Brazil.”
