With over 220,000 views on X, Tatarevic’s clip made its way around to NASCAR fans, with some left scratching their heads as to why teams would decline that offer. “Oh my God if that is true that is insane,” one fan wrote in response. “NASCAR heard Denny say the teams may repair the car and mentioned go forward and teams mentioned no? No method.”

NASCAR driver Rajah Caruth famous: “That can be superior.” That said, another fan wrote to Hamlin: “I simply can’t fathom the thought that @NASCAR opened it up for the staff’s to experiment and so they mentioned no. Is this so, @keselowski @dennyhamlin?” To which Hamlin replied: “It is true. I’ll discuss it Monday, and why the choice was made.”

For Hamlin, seeing NASCAR continue to grow and evolve is in his best interest as part co-owner of 23XI Racing with Michael Jordan. The NASCAR legend operates his team with the former NBA star as he drives for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) in search of his first NASCAR Cup Series championship. 

That said, Hamlin understands that as his career continues to unfold, he could choose to leave JGR and race for 23XI as his career comes to a close. Speaking with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on an episode of the ‘Dale Jr. Download,’ the 44-year-old shared what could be in his plans in the near future.

“I believe that operating some at 23XI is one thing that I’d love to do,” Hamlin informed Earnhardt. “Joe Gibbs Racing’s been amazing to me over the 20 years that I’ve been with them. Just fantastic, couldn’t be any better. Joe and that whole group has just been amazing.

“But you know, there’s things that are different. I do have a race team. You know, I really would like, even if I phased out and ran some there, that would be a cool goal of mine. Just whatever it is. Five races, 25, whatever it might be. It’d be a cool way to phase out versus just stopping. I think I’d have a tough time just stopping.”

He added: “I want to be competitive when I do it. I don’t want to do it when I’m already passed my prime of winning. And so, however, that timing works, that’s how I would like for it to work, but you don’t always get to decide.”
