Pat defined: “You can hear all the cars and vans rattling through them – it sounds horrific. A couple of years ago we heard a scream out there one evening and a poor lad had come off his bike having hit a pothole, lacerated all his limbs, broke his arm, smashed his helmet and wrote his bike off. He was very lucky not to be more badly injured but he was in a right mess.”
Locals have already tried to intervene, putting out their own local road signs advertising the potholes before motorists arrive. Pat added that there was a local highways app where any issues can be reported, with 20 outstanding complaints listed in the area.
However, he claimed no one ever arrives to fix the damage, leaving locals to question what else can be done.
Pat stated: “They [council] do a reasonably good job, but occasionally they come out and will take one pothole and fill that because it’s the deepest one, and leave all the other ones around it. Well, why don’t they do them all when they come out? It’s a bit weird. It is very frustrating when you see the roads getting worse and worse.
“This length of road just needs planning out and resurfacing. It’s now just a series of repaired or not repaired potholes, which keep creating more potholes.”
Pat added that the issue is even worse in the winter as the potholes fill with water. At night, it makes it harder to see them, with road users unaware of the horrors if they are not local.

Gloucestershire County Council stressed that its highway teams are working “flat out right now” to fix the potholes in the region.
Cllr Joe Harris, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “I’m very grateful to everyone who has taken time to report problem potholes in the Stroud area.
“Our highways teams are working flat out right now, dealing with the impact of the winter weather, please bear with us while we fix the most urgent cases. We’re committed to improving the quality of roads in Stroud and across the county.”
Gloucestershire County Council explained they had carried out more than 56,000 minor road repairs – most of them on potholes. The Council stressed they act quickly to fix the biggest potholes and urged road users to keep reporting issues when they arise.
Cllr Harris added: “Resurfacing is the best long-term fix: we’ve recently resurfaced Haresfield Lane and Nympsfield Road and we’ll be resurfacing more roads throughout the year, including Brimscombe Hill and a section of the B4014. We’re working to fix our roads and keep Gloucestershire moving.”
