A used car expert has lifted the lid on the best month to secure a second-hand used car, with motorists set to get pleasure from main financial savings on petrol and diesel autos this summer season. Matas Buzelis, an automotive market expert at carVertical, has warned that a slower purchaser market in May and June may help street customers secure a cut price. 

A research by the motoring group discovered that June was the slowest month for used car purchases. Just 7.6% of all car historical past reviews on their platform had been offered in June, making it the primary least lively month of the 12 months. December was subsequent, adopted closest by May,  that means street customers may secure the best deal within the subsequent two months.

Experts stress that sellers usually clear out older stock over the summer to make room for new vehicles. 

However, in a bid to quickly get rid of older models, dealers would usually offer heavy discounts to move inventory faster.

Specialists warned waiting a bit longer until the Autumn or Winter could backfire with charges likely to rise. 

The most popular month for used car purchases is October, followed by November and September.

Despite this, experts have urged road users to never rush a second-hand used car purchase, regardless of when they dip into the market.

Matas adds: “Car buyers may have more negotiating power and a better chance of securing a cheaper deal in the run-up to the Christmas holidays, as it typically takes longer to sell a vehicle during this period.

“While summer and winter may present the best opportunities for savings, it’s still never a good idea to rush into a purchase.

“Buying a used car at all times comes with some dangers, so it’s important to do loads of due diligence, analysis the car’s historical past, carry out a thorough check drive, and have it inspected at an authorised service heart earlier than making a choice.”
