Winning the Daytona 500 is one thing Tyler Reddick will always remember.

He’ll always remember the second he dived down the inside of Chase Elliott to take the lead coming off flip 4. He’ll always remember seeing the chaos that ensued behind him as he crossed the road with over 100,000 followers on their toes.

He’ll always remember climbing out of his car on the frontstretch, leaping into the arms of his crew as they ran throughout the infield. Or driving into Victory Lane, together with his eldest son, Beau, sat inside the car with him and spouse Alexa and their youngest son, Rookie, ready for him.

But he reveals the second that stands out is the one which can be replayed time and time again, proper up there with NASCAR’s most iconic pictures.

“One of the top (moments) for sure is hoisting the Harley J. Earl trophy up with Michael Jordan,” he tells Express US Sports.

“He played a huge part in me coming to 23XI to drive here, and it’s very sweet to be able to deliver him one of the Crown Jewel races in our sport.”

The celebrations with Jordan in Victory Lane spilled over long into the evening.

“They were great,” Reddick says with a wry smile, however insists he stored the correct steadiness to be “ready to soak in all the moments” alongside the way in which.

Unfortunately, in contrast to at their final 23XI Racing Christmas Party, Jordan was not in it for the long haul. It means one other drink is deliberate together with his boss within the close to future to mirror on their monumental achievement

“He told me he needed to fly home and get ready for his birthday celebrations,” Reddick reveals. “So we got to celebrate a little bit in Victory Lane. From there, I’m sure we’ll have another drink and talk about things that happened on Sunday.”

While Sunday was all about Reddick, Jordan nonetheless captivates consideration in a means no different athlete can. It meant Reddick’s win, and their celebrations collectively, prolonged far and huge, past the extraordinary NASCAR demographic.

It is probably essentially the most mainstream second NASCAR has seen in many years – a truth not misplaced on the 30-year-old.

“It’s an incredible moment,” he says. “For our sport, for me as a driver, for this team. As a Jordan Brand athlete, being able to have that moment in NASCAR…there’s a lot of reasons why the moment is very special. And it’s really cool to be able to do it in the fashion that we did at Daytona.”

On a personal stage, it couldn’t have come at a higher time. Just a few months in the past, he was approaching the top of a winless season, his son, Rookie, was preventing coronary heart failure within the hospital with few solutions forthcoming and his workforce, 23XI Racing, was locked in a legal battle with NASCAR.

“It was in a bad place,” he admits. “Certainly, those were hard days, and in some ways, being able to step away from the race track and just focus on my family was the timing of ‘everything happens for a reason’.

“That comes to mind when we were able to get to Victory Lane on Sunday, and Rookie is there, getting to celebrate the moment with the rest of his family as well.”

With Rookie now doing properly, the lawsuit settled and Reddick’s winless streak over in essentially the most satisfying means attainable, it couldn’t get significantly better. Oh, and it additionally got here at the beginning of a contract 12 months.

“Good timing,” he says, nodding his head with a grin. “Very good timing.”

There’s nothing fairly just like the buildup to the Daytona 500. It is the game’s largest occasion, but additionally the primary race of the season.

The stress, nerves and pleasure have been all palpable because the Thunderbirds blasted over the sunny Florida skies, then comic Nate Bargatze uttered essentially the most well-known phrases in motorsports: “DRIVERS, START YOUR ENGINES!”. The nervous power is exclusive.

“I’ve been able to experience the feelings before the race many times,” Reddick says. “And the feeling afterwards has always been the what-ifs, the disappointment.

“It’s just a huge breath of fresh air to know we got to the end of the race, we had an opportunity and we capitalized on it.”

When Reddick got here into the press room after his win, he instructed the media he “would never miss a Daytona 500 as a little kid growing up out in California”. It could be cliché, however this was a second he had at all times dreamed about.

How did it stack up? As he stands atop the Empire State Building overlooking the town that by no means sleeps, he declares: “It’s everything you could imagine and dream of and more.

“It’s really cool to be here (in New York), talking to people about it, and getting to spend this time with my wife.

“It’s pretty incredible. A lot of great things come with this race, and probably one of the sweetest parts of it all is being known as a Daytona 500 champion.”

Not solely is he a Daytona 500 champion, however he additionally did it in a breathless, frantic closing few laps that might have no doubt had a younger Reddick on his toes as a child in California. It’s no shock that it’s now his new favourite Daytona end.

“I think I’ve watched it about seven or eight times now,” he says. “For me, it’s my favorite, obviously, for a number of reasons!

“It was a true, chaotic Daytona finish and I think the best part that it seems the fans are excited about is the fact we had the chaos, but we managed to race back to the start-finish line, too.”
