Jessica Pegula is hoping not to “jinx” her luck with aces at Indian Wells.

Pegula is set to tackle Elena Rybakina within the quarterfinals after taking down Belinda Bencic. Her win over Bencic marked the primary time the American had triumphed, after the star had misplaced the final 4 instances they’d confronted off all through their careers.

“I am hitting a lot of aces. I don’t want to jinx it, but I am hitting more aces here than probably any other tournament,” Pegula said during an interview with the Tennis Channel regarding her success at Indian Wells this year compared to her previous years playing the tournament, [h/t The Tennis Gazette].

“We have been working on my serve so much, so it’s gratifying to see that it’s winning me a lot more free points. It’s definitely very helpful when you can serve a few aces.”

In her three matches in California, Pegula has served up 28 aces to only seven double faults, showing just how much her work has paid off. Against Donna Vekic, the 32-year-old notched eight aces, and in the next round against Jelena Ostapenko, she added 12 more.

Then, in her win over Bencic, the star had eight aces as she prepares to take on Rybakina in the quarterfinals. It is clear that what Pegula worked on during the offseason has worked, as in 2026, she is recording 4.61 aces per match, according to Tennis Stats.

That number is significantly higher than what she posted in 2025, recording 2.63 aces per match. Over the last 12 months, Pegula has notched 3.27 per match, showing her gradual improvement in that department.

With the fruits of her work on full display, Pegula is achieving new heights in her career. That said, the 32-year-old note the “actually powerful” situations in California at current.

“We’re kind of used to that, but I think with the thin air and the fact that it can get really hot here, but then also get to cool and get very windy, is really tricky,” she said, per Tennis Head. “It’s hard to control the ball when the air is really thin and dry, but then the court feels sometimes slow.

“It’s just tricky. It’s one of those things I think we all kind of struggle with, and you’re just trying to do your best out there to figure out, you know, and adapt and try to figure out how to play your game without, you know, overthinking it.”
