Veteran jockey Shane McGovern has undergone double leg amputation following a tragic accident at his stables.
The 67-year-old was conducting trackwork when his horse, Reformist, instantly collapsed and died, trapping him beneath. McGovern’s spouse, Kim, found him after six hours, and he was instantly transported to the hospital from his Charters Towers base in North Queensland, Australia.
“A devastating update on QLD jockey Shane McGovern, unfortunately Shane has now had both his legs amputated,” a post from The Australian Jockeys Association stated on X.
