Katherine Legge has achieved a great deal in her more than twenty years within the racing world, competing within the likes of Formula E, IndyAutomotive, IMSA, and now, the NASCAR Cup Series, the place she most lately completed thirty sixth at Watkins Glen.

This season, Legge has made six Cup appearances for Live Fast Motorsports within the No. 78 Chevrolet, discovering her means into the highest 20 twice and, in so doing, turning into the primary girl to attain this feat within the collection since Danica Patrick. What’s more, in competing at Indianapolis, the place she completed seventeenth, she grew to become the first girl since Patrick to have raced each the Brickyard 400 and the Indianapolis 500.

Reflecting on her profession with fellow Cup racer Corey LaJoie on his Stacking Pennies podcast, and particularly her successes, Legge admitted that whereas she believes she is “very lucky to be doing what I’m doing,” she famous that she wished she may have raced in “top-notch equipment” more frequently.

“That’s the other thing about being a ‘novelty,’ right? People want you there because you don’t look like anybody else in the paddock,” she stated. “But they don’t want to put you in the best rides.

“I think that Danica was the only one who had top-notch equipment, apart from that, we’re the ‘token’ if you like. So I’ve fought against that for the majority of my career. I really would love top-notch equipment. I’ve been fighting for it forever, and I’ve had the chance to drive a good car a couple of times like when I was with MSR (Michael Shank Racing) in IMSA, and we won a bunch of races. But not many people are in one of the best cars too, so you have to understand that.”

During her aforementioned time with MSR, she spent three full seasons behind the wheel of an Acura NSX GT3, profitable 4 races, ending runner-up six occasions, and in the end ending second within the 2018 championship within the GT Daytona class.

This second-place run in 2018 clearly nonetheless frustrates Legge, who admitted it “sucks,” nevertheless, she went on so as to add that she was proud of her longevity.

“I think the longevity in my career has been a success,” she stated. “The fact that I still get to do what I love, because not many people get to last 20 years in this sport, it spits them out, right. So, I’m proud of that.”

Legge’s NASCAR journey is set to proceed in October when she returns for her seventh and closing race of the 2025 Cup season within the No. 78 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, having initially deliberate to compete at Richmond Raceway on Saturday, per Motorsport.

DON’T MISS…

Looking forward, Legge has her eyes set on a return to the Indy 500 in 2026, alongside a busier NASCAR schedule – one which may but see her take on a full season within the Xfinity Series, in line with IndyStar.

“I’ve been racing professionally for 20 years now, and I still have good years left in me yet, so I’m going to use them and try to be the best stock car driver I can be,” she stated.

“I want to give myself the opportunity to be the best stock car driver I can. I don’t want to just be a show pony who just goes out and does the Daytona 500 and the big, splashy races and doesn’t care where she finishes, because I’m too competitive for that. I know I want to see my career out in a way that’s honoring me and the rest of my career that I’ve had, which has been based on competition and not showmanship.

“Those big, splashy, showy races are great for the amount of ROI they give your sponsors, but I want to use that as leverage to try and be the best stock car driver that I can be before I transition and go do all the races on my bucket list.”
