Madison Keys makes honest Coco Gauff admission – | Sports News

A trio of Americans are ranked amongst the top five seeds at the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells): No. 3 Coco Gauff, No. 4 Jessica Pegula, and No. 5 Madison Keys. 

The 30-year-old Keys finally broke through for her first Grand Slam victory in 2025, capturing the Australian Open title. Her maiden major victory came when she was 11 years older than Guaff, who won the 2023 US Open as a 19-year-old. 

Ahead of Indiana Wells, Keys was effusive in her praise of the American youngster and talked about youth on tour being taken for granted. 

“I think we kind of see that, I mean, even in someone like [Coco Gauff], it feels like she’s been on tour for years and years and years already,” Key admitted. “Someone reminds me she’s 20 still, and it blows my mind.”

“I think there’s a maturity that happens when you’re on the tour as young as we were and we’ve been around this for so long,” Keys continued. “So I think it kind of just, there’s a level of maturity that happens when you start so young.”

“It’s just a really great group of women that I’ve grown up with that have continued to encourage and push and support each other. When we see each other do well, we’re not only extremely excited for them, but we’re all being cheerleaders for each other.”
