One of the UK’s greatest cities may quickly introduce a hefty office parking charge set at an eye-watering £750. Businesses in Welsh capital Cardiff could need to pay 1000’s of kilos to offer parking to their employees as half of plans for a office parking levy.

The scheme could imply companies must pay up to £750 for every parking space employers present to employees at their premises. Money raised by the new charge is predicted for use on transport initiatives corresponding to buses and cycle lanes.

A report from Cardiff Council stated: “Having assessed the options in detail, the recommended preferred option is a Workplace Parking Levy (WPL) – a charge on employers who provide workplace parking, not a charge on residents driving in the city.

“It is the lowest impact option that still delivers a significant and reliable funding stream for transport improvements, every penny of which must, by law, be reinvested in transport.”

Cllr Dan De’Ath, cupboard member for climate change, strategic planning and transport, harassed that the office parking levy can be the council’s choice.
