Per week after they united in canceling an AI-focused Manhattan public high school over bogus “racial justice” considerations, Chancellor Kamar Samuels proudly joined Mayor Zohran Mamdani to provide The Bronx … Hip-Hop High. 

Samuels bragged that it and 4 different new colleges will ship “innovative and culturally responsive instruction” and “build a stronger, more equitable future” for the town.

Which school is more prone to put college students on a stable profession path?

Next Gen Tech was to be academically rigorous, with a robust math and science curriculum together with calculus and coding.

The School of Hip Hop plans to show “hip-hop foundations,” entrepreneurship, and “civic engagement through music” — blatantly vaporous stuff — with the imprecise promise that children will “graduate not only academically prepared, but performance-ready.” 

AI and STEM expertise usually are important to the long run economic system; hip-hop is a music style based 50 years in the past — whose future is behind it.

And, ooh, the racism: First within the cries that screening for means to do Next Gen Tech classwork would exclude black and Hispanic college students, after which the smirking “gift” to mainly-minority Bronx youngsters of a school “rooted” within the “five elements” of hip-hop: Emceeing, DJing, Graffiti, Breaking and Knowledge of Self. 

Of course, this “soft bigotry of low expectations,” as a former president termed it, goes all of the up to the anti-education State Education Department, which now pretends that “project-based learning” is a effective pathway to a high school diploma.

New York City mother and father need leaders devoted to getting ready their youngsters to succeed in school and in life; as a substitute they’ve bought Mamdani and Samuels, who plainly see the public colleges as some mixture of a con and a joke.
