MTA to spend $2.4B on new railcars for LIRR, – Business News

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has positioned a $2.4 billion order with French prepare maker Alstom to ship M-9A railcars for the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Rail Road, the company stated Friday.

The contract, which was introduced by MTA in June, shall be booked within the second quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal yr, Alstom stated.

MTA final month stated that pilot railcars from Alstom could be delivered in 2029 and enter passenger service on the Long Island Rail Road in 2030.

All 316 railcars that had been half of this order had been anticipated to be delivered by 2032, it added.

Those embrace 160 vehicles for the LIRR and 156 for Metro-North.
