NASCAR star was ‘attacked’ in car after Pocono Cup – Sports News
Corey LaJoie revealed what actually occurred during his notorious scuffle with Ryan Preece at Pocono Raceway two years in the past.
After failing to land a full-time seat in NASCAR this 12 months, LaJoie has adopted a new function as an analyst for Amazon Prime Video. Droves of followers have counseled the job that the streaming giant has accomplished whereas broadcasting 5 consecutive races in the Cup Series schedule — all of which have every seen an uptick in youthful demographic viewership.
While nonetheless racing full-time for Spire Motorsports back in 2023, LaJoie drew the ire of Preece after entering into him and inflicting the No. 41 Ford driver to spin out. Following the on-track incident, the latter confronted the previous on Pit Road and commenced wildly swinging at his head.
One 12 months later, LaJoie broke down what led to the ugly incident on his ‘Stacking Pennies’ podcast. “Let’s just go ahead and talk about this elephant in the room, the incident in which I was attacked in my car on Pit Road after the race,” he started.
“Ryan entered as though we were 2-wide, where I entered as if we were 3-wide, and we were both fighting for the same real estate. He entered on my right front, so I was just kind of bound up in a bad aero spot, and got into him and turned him around. So spun out, we don’t finish good, he obviously doesn’t finish good.
“You’re just racing hard, you’re racing for the same piece of real estate, it happens,” LaJoie continued. “Come down pit road, and he came around under the cool-down lap and pulls in front of me. I was like, okay, I guess we’ll get talking about it. So we get parked, and I can see seatbelts flying, and I can see him frustrated. And I’ve got my belts off, I’m undoing my Hans Clips, doing my radio connector, got my visor up. I’m all ready to get out and probably get an expected a– reaming for spinning him out, which I probably deserved, not on purpose.”
While LaJoie knew that Preece wouldn’t be pleased with him post-race, he shortly realized that the 34-year-old was past livid. “But then, I see the aggression in which he gets out of his car. I’m like, oh he is not wanting to talk. He is running at me,” LaJoie recalled.

That’d be a great move to start, but I didn’t allow him to do that, because I shut my visor. And then, he reached in the car … and I grabbed his left hand that he put in there. I kind of pinned it up against the steering wheel, and he slapped around the helmet a couple times.”
Fortunately for LaJoie, his crew chief was close by to interrupt up the skirmish. “Then my fearless leader Ryan Sparks came and wrapped him up, Bowman Gray style,” he stated. “[Preece] called me a piece of s—-. Hey, Sparks has got my back. Got a couple guys, rang them up, and that was the last I saw of them.”
