New York ABSOLUTELY should ban masked ‘protests’ – Latest News
Masked protesters march down metropolis streets, particularly in Jewish neighborhoods, chanting in help of Hamas: It’s intimidation as twisted as a Klan rally in a black space.
That’s why Mayor Eric Adams needs a metropolis ban on masked public demonstrations — and fairly clearly why the City Council is resisting.
The identical ban was statewide law till lefties within the Legislature repealed it in 2020 (underneath the pretext of preventing COVID) and this 12 months principally flipped off Gov. Kathy Hochul’s call to revive it.
Why progressives favor intimidating Jews (or different minorities) is a query for an additional time, and of course the council naysayers fake their foot-dragging is about defending civil liberties and/or fears the ban can be used to focus on Muslims or the immuno-compromised.
Hogwash! The state ban by no means introduced any such abuse, in more than a century on the books. (Plus, the proposed invoice consists of medical necessity as an affirmative protection, and the one potential penalty is a wonderful.)
Nor is at present’s majority-minority NYPD going to interrupt new ground in oppression — as if any NYC choose would play alongside.

Note that the progs are actually siding with the Ku Klux Klan right here.
The Klan challenged the state ban long in the past, insisting the Constitution protects hood-wearing.
Not so! ruled future Justice Sonia Sotomayor in 2004: Hiding your face to unfold hate just isn’t a proper assured by the First Amendment.
Adams is fully proper to push a masks ban now. No New Yorkers — Jewish, black, Muslim, Asian, no matter — should be subject to gangs of goons who really feel emboldened by their anonymity to sow chaos.
How unhealthy is the City Council? Even Bronx Councilman Eric Dinowitz, an outspoken advocate towards organized antisemitism, will get mealy-mouthed in regards to the mayor’s ban: “I oppose Hezbollah masks, Klan masks, and ICE masks,” he instructed The Post. “No one should be allowed to wear a mask and intimidate people.”
Equating a Klan hood or a keffiyeh concealing a Hamas supporter’s face with the uniform of a federal officer is absurd and admittedly offensive.
Klansmen and terrorists put on masks as a result of they’re committing crimes, or wish to. ICE officers are implementing the law — and anyway New York City can’t legislate how federal officers gown or deploy.
Demanding that anti-mask legal guidelines additionally apply to ICE is simply one other lame dodge (and a low cost speaking level).
New York City solely works if everybody will get together with one another, and half of that social contract means assembly one another face-to-face.
Plainly, stopping to consider making town work simply isn’t a progressive factor.
