What was meant to be a routine stretch of sports activities radio shortly spiraled into controversy for Minnesota Vikings play-by-play announcer Paul Allen, forcing a public apology and a non permanent step away from the airwaves after he echoed a conspiracy concept tied to a lethal real-world scenario in Minneapolis.

Allen opened Monday’s episode of his KFAN radio show by addressing remarks he made on Friday that referenced “paid protesters” whereas discussing frigid climate circumstances in Minnesota. The feedback had been broadly criticized as dismissive and insensitive, significantly given their timing.

“Good morning. I made a comment on air Friday about protesters and the weather that was insensitive and poorly timed, and I’m sorry,” Allen mentioned firstly of Monday’s show.

“It was a misguided attempt at humor. While it was never meant with any ill intent or political affront, I absolutely and wholeheartedly want to apologize to those who genuinely were hurt or offended by it.”

The authentic remarks aired during a Friday morning section by which Allen joked, “In conditions like this, do paid protesters get hazard pay?”

He later doubled down during the identical broadcast whereas speaking about NFL teaching information, saying, “Everybody’s catching strays this week. The fallout prolonged past the radio show. Allen deleted a post on X from Saturday by which he used the phrase “firing bullets” to reward a colleague’s on-air efficiency, later explaining that he was unaware on the time of the Minneapolis shooting.

In a subsequent post, Allen wrote, “I’m so sad this terror is happening all around us here in MN… I truly am sorry for all hurting like me through this, and I just want us to be a Love Covenant again. Truly. Let’s all pray this stops somehow because it’s awful. And no more cheap one-liners from me.”
