Certain automobiles can be banned from travelling on a fashionable A-road with new restrictions launched by National Highways. A new weight restriction will apply on the A5 by way of Towcester city centre, with automobiles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes not allowed to make use of the route.

“This is the first phase of National Highways’ work to address some of those concerns and find a solution to reduce the number of heavy vehicles travelling along the A5 every day. Further improvements will take place later this year to continue in our ambition of improving congestion and safety in the historic town centre.”

National Highways has already confirmed that some exemptions will apply, with emergency automobiles, buses and coaches nonetheless in a position to make use of the roads.
