Pokemon bandit swipes $100K worth of rare cards in – Business News

More than $100,000 worth of rare Pokémon trading cards had been swiped by a seemingly savvy collector from a small store in Massachusetts, in accordance with reviews.

The brazen bandit used a hammer to smash open the door of 1st Edition Collectibles in New Bedford, Mass., round 2:30 a.m. final Tuesday, in accordance with the New York Times.

The masked burglar made a beeline for a show case that held high-end collectibles and tossed them in a bag earlier than working away, in accordance with William Gilmour, one of the store’s house owners.

“They were in and out of our store within 30 seconds,” Gilmour instructed the Times.

“They went straight to these high-value items.”

The thief made off with 5 rare Pokémon trading cards and a few classic box units – which mixed are worth an estimated $100,000 to $113,000, Gilmour stated.

The stolen Pokémon cards, which have boomed in recognition with children, included a BGS 8.5 First Edition Shadowless Charizard – a small, yellow dragon-like creature that shoots flames.

Also snatched was a BGS 7.5 First Edition Shadowless Blastoise, a chunky Pokémon that appears like a turtle and has the facility of “rain dance.”

BGS stands for Beckett Grading Services, which charges sports activities and trading cards.

The stolen sealed packing containers included a Pokémon base set Unlimited Green Wing Booster Box, which incorporates 36 packs of unique cards.

“They are really rare because how many sealed boxes are still there from 1999 to 2000?” Gilmour instructed the Times.

The store in downtown New Bedford, about 60 miles south of Boston, sells Pokémon collectibles, sports activities cards and classic video video games

“We’re literally just three guys. This is our passion. This is what we have loved since we were children,” Felipe Andre, one other store proprietor, instructed NBC Boston.

The house owners stated they deliberate to reopen on Tuesday.

As of Monday, law enforcement officers stated the theft remained beneath investigation and that no arrests had been made.

The New Bedford Police Department didn’t instantly reply to The Post’s request for remark.

Pokémon – short for pocket monsters – skyrocketed in recognition in the Nineteen Nineties, after its launch as a Japanese video recreation.

The tiny monsters later turned obtainable as trading cards, and have since appeared in animated sequence and films, in addition to collectible figurines – particularly its most well-known character, Pikachu, the yellow mouse-like determine with purple cheeks that may shoot lightning when indignant.
