The billionaire tax is on the poll — however so are the weapons towards it.
Google founder Sergey Brin has launched — and largely funded — two poll initiatives that take direct intention on the tax proposal.
One of Brin’s countermeasures would ban taxes on personal property, together with retroactive taxes. (The billionaire tax proposes seizing 5% of the wealth and property of its targets). If it receives more votes than the billionaire tax, then beneath state law, it could prevail.

What is that dream?
No doubt — it’s a dream of higher climate; of sunshine and surf; of Hollywood starlets and high-tech wealth.

But it’s additionally a dream about freedom — about a place that prizes something new, a place that accepts people for who they’re, a place that units the trends that change the world.
And most of all, the California Dream is about having the ability to meet different dreamers.
The form of people who launch AI startups from garages — and invent Burning Man festivals on the seashore.

Many of the billionaires who’re leaving the state are self-made. They got here up with concepts that labored. They lived the dream.
Then they used their wealth to satisfy the desires of different people, by hiring them or investing of their firms.
Those are the people the billionaire tax is chasing away.
They will take their wealth to different locations. But they gained’t be capable of re-create the California Dream.
If that dream dies right here, it dies in all places. There is no different California.
So Brin is preventing — preventing exhausting, and good.
It’s up to voters to do the remainder.
