Shane van Gisbergen hints at ‘change in NASCAR – Sports News
NASCAR returns to Chicago on Sunday for the third operating of the Windy City Street Race, the primary of which was gained by Shane van Gisbergen back in 2023.
The 36-year-old was a relative unknown to the NASCAR world when he triumphed in Chicago, the place he returns this week, albeit in a completely different scenario to final time. Having already gained a Cup Series race this season, with van Gisbergen claiming victory at the Viva Mexico 250, he has already booked his place in the playoffs.
Speaking to the AP, the New Zealander admits that the race win could change how he and his crew operate on Sunday.
“We’re in a nice position now having won a race,” van Gisbergen stated on Friday.
“And it may change our strategy. If we´re in a position to get a playoff point, we´ll probably try and get that, but that´ll put us deep in the field for the next stage.
He continued: “So yeah, there´s a bit of a toss-up there what we´re going to do, but it surely´s a good place to be in.”
The three-time Australian Supercars champion is also excited to return to Chicago due to having created some “great recollections” in the Windy City.
“You know, I’ve great recollections right here,” van Gisbergen added. “This place has modified my life, so I´m going to have particular recollections of this place endlessly.”
And while the rest of the NASCAR field are having to adapt to race on a street circuit in Chicago, something van Gisbergen is comfortable with, he also admits that in some ways, he is playing catch-up on regular oval tracks.

“You know, they´re two fully completely different sports activities, and though there was street racing in NASCAR endlessly, it´s not that a lot.
