Suarez nabs sponsorship deal for Mexico’s NASCAR – Sports News
Mexican driver Daniel Suarez is making preparations forward of the NASCAR Cup Series’s historic journey to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City this June.
The 32-year-old inked a deal with Mexican wi-fi telecommunications company Telcel. He will drive his No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, now adorned with the signature blue and white of Telcel, for the June 15 race.
Currently named the NASCAR Cup Series at Mexico City, it is going to be the first official factors race held exterior of the United States since 1958.
Suarez is worked up for the event. “This, to me, is a dream come true,” he stated. “Being born and raised in Mexico could be very particular to me. I’ve dreamed about racing in my home nation on daily basis since I left Mexico to chase my NASCAR dream in 2011.”
“This race would be the spotlight of my racing profession,” he continued. It is a chance to compete in front of my home country fans and those who have supported me all these years.”
That’s no small statement: Suarez was a playoff finisher in the Cup Series last season and has two victories in the circuit. Most recently, he captured the 2024 Ambetter Health 300 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
The 2016 XFinity Series Champion is off to an up-and-down start to the 2025 campaign, currently sitting 27th in the playoff standings. His best showing came at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where he finished second in the Pennzoil 400.
Still, Suarez is hoping the Cup Series’ trip to Mexico will increase the recognition of the game. “I hope this event creates a lot of NASCAR fans in Mexico,” he added. “We want to make this event permanent on the NASCAR calendar for many years.”
“Mexico has been loving motorsports for a very long time, and I feel like, slowly, that has also changed into NASCAR. NASCAR is a very important sport for Mexico, and it continues to grow with the NASCAR Mexico Series and now the Cup Series going there. It’s going to be a large deal.”
