Stonewall flag fix

The debate over the rainbow flag at Stonewall National Monument is being framed as a culture-war showdown, nevertheless it doesn’t must be (“Rainbow flag nix by WH,” Feb. 11).

While federal property correctly prioritizes the US flag, seriousness requires proportionality, not overcorrection. There is a cheap center ground: At commemorative websites, a single traditionally related flag may very well be flown under the American flag; not as a rival or show of activism, however as context.

This method preserves hierarchy whereas acknowledging historical past.

WaPo is a business

I, like many different New York Post readers, don’t like to listen to about people being fired from their jobs (“WaPo CEO quits after staff bloodbath,” Feb. 8).

However, The Washington Post is a business and, as such, is subject to revenue and loss. If the terminated workers thought that that they had a job for all times, that was their most up-to-date mistake.

E! firing foul

How dare E! fire Jill Zarin for talking her thoughts concerning Bad Bunny on the Super Bowl; her opinion was that of many Americans (“E! ditches Bad ‘Housewife,’ ” Feb. 11).

She shouldn’t be punished for expressing a freedom we as Americans consider and fought for. The people at E! ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Cancer awareness

The tragic deaths of actor James Van Der Beek and Catherine O’Hara underscore an alarming public-health disaster that calls for our rapid consideration (“Lived dreamy life,” Feb. 12).

Colorectal most cancers is now the main trigger of most cancers death in Americans beneath 50, but awareness and analysis funding stay woefully insufficient.

We need a multi-pronged response: aggressive awareness campaigns focusing on youthful adults, elevated federal analysis funding and insurance coverage protection that makes screening accessible and routine. These deaths ought to impress motion, not merely generate headlines.

Turley’s triumph

Jonathan Turley’s article on the American Revolution has super scope and vary (“America’s Revolutionaries,” Postscript, Feb. 8).

It begins with Greek mythology, then extends by the American and French Revolutions all the best way to at the moment’s battles — each verbal and bodily — over the relevancy of our founding doc: the US Constitution.

Finally, Turley’s concentrate on Thomas Paine’s key function in each revolutions is just fascinating to me. Many historic figures stay simply that, historic. But it appears that evidently Paine’s relevancy extends uniquely even into present occasions. Many thanks for enlightening us.

Olympic cheaters

The Winter Olympics appear to be getting more protection for “cheating” than for competing (“Unforgiving ex,” Feb. 12).

There was the weirdest type of doping, “Penis-gate,” adopted by the more conventional method of dishonest: infidelity by Norway’s Sturla Holm Laegreid. He used his bronze medal interview to beg his ex-girlfriend to return to him.

There have been a quantity of downhill fails right here, though that is solely a damaged coronary heart, not a bone.
