Car restore and servicing specialists at Bumper recommended some street customers may see payments hit an eye-watering £15,000.

Bumper defined: “The new pick-up truck tax changes will depend on what kind of vehicle you own. Let’s quickly look at an example.

“If you drive a company-owned vehicle that falls into the highest BiK bracket for company cars, you may end up paying as much as £15,000 per year. This is almost three times the current flat rate for light commercial vehicles.

“It’s a significant hit for tradespeople who depend on these trucks for their work.”

A double cab pickup truck is assessed as a vehicle with two rows of entrance seats and an open load space behind it.

However, companies have been handed a lifeline with transitional preparations in place.

Companies who buy or lease a double cab pick-up earlier than 6 April 2025 can use the prevailing charges till April 2029.

Meanwhile, there have been issues that employers transferring a double cab pick-up to a different worker would even be caught out.

However, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) not too long ago burdened that this was not the case, with corporations nonetheless in a position to deal with the model as a van for tax functions till 2029.
