UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit declared he’s “not here to be liked” following widespread criticism of his crude comment about former First Lady Michelle Obama. After securing a second-round TKO win over Derrick Lewis at Sunday’s UFC Freedom 250 occasion held on the White House South Lawn, Hokit addressed commentator Joe Rogan during a post-fight interview inside the Octagon.
Following his thanks to President Donald Trump for internet hosting the occasion, the 28-year-old made a pointed jab at Obama. “And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?” Hokit stated. Rogan promptly reclaimed the microphone and concluded: “Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Hokit.”

Congressman Christian D. Menefee took to X to voice his outrage, writing: “They really let a UFC fighter call our only Black First Lady a man on the White House lawn at an official White House event … while thousands cheered and the biggest podcaster in the world smiled.
“There is no financial coverage repair for this. Many of these people are simply racist.” Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III labeled Hokit a “shame” and “small man,” stating: “Josh Hokit gained the most important combat of his profession on the White House and decides to end his interview by calling Michelle Obama a Man. What a shame.
“It takes a really small man to use his biggest moment to attack a woman by calling her a man. Especially with the history behind calling black women men.” Former UFC middleweight Derek Brunson echoed these sentiments, commenting, “Hokit had to ruin the UFC White House vibes with that goofy comment about Michelle Obama. Super unnecessary SMDH [shaking my damn head].”
UFC CEO Dana White distanced himself from Hokit’s remarks in a textual content message to TIME magazine, making clear he didn’t endorse “that kind of nonsense.”
The 56-year-old acknowledged, “I understand that the Obamas are public figures, but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families. Everyone knows my position on free speech, but I hate that kind of nonsense.”
This isn’t the primary time Hokit has discovered himself in scorching water over inflammatory remarks. Back in January at UFC 324, he wrapped up his post-fight interview with a pointed dig at WNBA star Brittney Griner, asserting: “And P.S., Brittney Griner is a man.”
