A British driver has spent an eye-watering sum of money securing one piece of bodywork for his or her basic car. New information launched by eBay UK exhibits an fanatic spent a whopping £18,564 for the piece in what is unquestionably one of the most costly repairs of all time.

The money was spent on a substitute aluminium nostril cone for a Jaguar E-type, one of the rarest automobiles on the street. The Jaguar narrowly edged out a half for a Ford Transit Custom, with a street consumer forking out £17,180 on a full entrance finish.

This was simply barely more costly than a new 4.4 litre V8 engine for a BMW M5 which got here in at simply over £17,000 for one buyer. According to specialists, the gross sales comfortably beat the earlier report set in 2024, which was held by an Audi R8 V10 engine which hit the digital hammer for £16,567.

Keith Adams, editor at used car specialists Parkers defined: “This is one of those stories that makes you stop and do a double-take, because it neatly captures how far car technology and values have moved on. A single body panel or engine now costing as much as a small car would have sounded absurd not that long ago.

“What I like about this list is the mix, with a Jaguar E-type nose cone sitting alongside a Transit front end and a BMW M5 engine. It shows that value isn’t just about badge prestige, but about demand, rarity and how easy a part is to reuse.”

However, Kazimieras Urbonas, Supplier Excellence Manager at car components specialists Ovoko warned motorists spending high quantities on components needed to watch out.

They warned that purchasing online often meant restricted high quality assurance whereas many sellers supplied insufficient returns insurance policies. It might put street customers at risk of being scammed in the event that they finish up paying a lot of money for an incorrect merchandise.

Kazimieras mentioned: “When you’re spending £18,000 on a bonnet or £17,000 on a front-end assembly, you need guarantees.

“The attraction of used parts is the cost saving, but that advantage disappears quickly if you end up with a part that doesn’t work or doesn’t fit. Take the time to verify, ask questions, and only buy from sellers who can provide proper documentation and protection.”
