The Department for Transport (DfT) has warned drivers about a important ’24-hour’ rule. Insurance consultants have stated that failing to comply with it could lead on to fines, penalty factors, and even a driving ban.

Under Rules 286 and 287 of the Highway Code, drivers concerned in a collision should share key data within 24 hours of the incident. Under the part “Documentation”, Rule 286 reads: “If you are involved in a collision which causes damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property, you MUST:
