Wheeler Dealers TV star Mike Brewer has selected a “cracking sportscar” available on the second-hand market for under £8,000. The presenter of the classic car restoration series selected the iconic Honda S2000 as the best pick for those looking to pay below the budget.
Mike stressed he “loved” having the car on a former episode of Wheeler Dealers and praised the model’s VTEC engine. The Japanese sports car was built by Honda for 10 years with production running from 1999 until 2009. The front-mid engine sportscar is widely popular even today and is considered to be a modern classic.
The TV star issued the tip on his ‘Ask Mike’ page online, a social forum where fans of the show can put their questions to the leading car dealer and receive feedback.
Steve from Surrey was one individual who got in touch, asking Mike specifically which convertible would be best.
Steve asked: “I’ve got £8000 to spend on a convertible for some weekend fun but can’t decide what to buy. What would you recommend?”
Responding to the message, Mike commented: “For me, it would have to be a Honda S2000. I loved the one we had on Wheeler Dealers, and with that VTEC engine it’s a cracking sports car.
“That money should get you one with less than 100,000 miles on the clock and not too many owners, but make sure you check it thoroughly for any signs of accident damage.”
The two-door convertible is capable of up to 240bhp with a top speed of up to 150mph.
The S2000 packs a punch from a standstill with models able to reach 0-60mph in six seconds. According to analysis from used car experts at Parkers, the vehicle has a fuel economy of 28mpg.
However, prices are on the rise with experts at Car and Classic suggesting models are now upwards of £10,000 or even £20,000.
Car and Classic explained: “Most decent, low mileage examples are now hovering around the £10,000 to £20,000 mark and you’ll be able to grab a very nice car in decent condition and spec at this price range.
“Tipping the scales at over £20K are the cream of the crop; cars in top condition with low miles and full history.”
