Wheeler Dealers stars Mike Brewer and Marc Priestley flew to South America to discover a basic Volkswagen they’ve spent “years” attempting to hint. Mike, Marc and his manufacturing crew discovered a historic Volkswagen SP2 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the model that includes within the upcoming sequence of the basic car restoration show.
The SP2 is a long-nosed, two-door hatchback coupé constructed by Brazilian engineers between 1972 and 1975. The model is fitted with a 1.7 litre air-cooled engine succesful of producing up to 75hp and a prime pace of 100mph. Despite the car’s unbelievable visuals, the SP2 by no means left Brazil, which has left the model with an nearly cult-like standing amongst car collectors.
Speaking completely to Express.co.uk on the Silverstone Festival, Marc mentioned: “I think that particular episode which you’ll see later this year… When we get to the Brazil episode, I think people are going to be blown away. Most people in the world won’t know the car we feature in this particular episode.
“It’s a car that Mike and I have been chasing after or trying to track down for many, many years and we had to literally go to Brazil to find it. I think it’s one of these cars that if it had made it out of Brazil and spread across the world like many others, it would have been one of the world’s most loved cars and had a movement behind it but it never did because it never left Brazil.”
Mike and Marc visited Brazil as half of manufacturing on the second sequence of Wheeler Dealers: World Tour.
