Chase Elliott on NASCAR change as Kyle Larson | Sports News

NASCAR president Steve O’Donnell not too long ago introduced that the Cup Series was set to bear a main change in 2026, with the often-criticized NextGen automobiles set to see an increase in horsepower from 670 to 750 at tracks much less than 1 1/2 miles in size, together with all 5 highway programs.

“It’s something, and they’re trying. So I applaud them for the effort and trying to keep the engine shops in mind. I totally understand that changes would have to come inside some of those shops if you got too far over a threshold. What that threshold is, I’m not exactly sure.”

Elliott’s feedback got here in response to O’Donnell explaining that the choice to solely raise the horsepower on faucet by 80 was made partly due to the inherent price to the groups and producers, as nicely as the litany of different changes to the engines and automobiles, which can rise in tandem with more energy.

“We’ll try it, and if it’s a good direction, maybe there’s a way for us to add more, and if it’s not a good direction and nothing changes, then we’ll come back and reassess,” Elliott added. “But I’m looking forward to whatever it brings.”

Elliott’s optimistic outlook was mirrored to an extent by teammate Kyle Larson, though the man title hopeful accompanied his reward with a phrase of warning.

“I would encourage everybody to temper their expectations, like, it’s not way different,” he stated, through On3. “I did a test recently at Kershaw, and nobody told me I had higher horsepower, and I never really realized it. So, yeah, I wouldn’t say it’s going to feel different or look crazy different. I think it will be better, but it’s not going to fix everything, you know?”

Fixing the whole lot could also be a bit formidable, however as far as O’Donnell seems to be involved, the group is open to creating additional adjustments down the road to help make additional enhancements to the NextGen car.
