Kyle Busch sees an emerging superstar in Connor Zilisch after sending him a positive message following his disappointing debut in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Seen as the next great stock car racing driver, Zilisch made his Cup Series debut just hours after winning on the Xfinity tour aged 18, where he has among the favorites to win the championship.

Zilisch‘s debut in the Cup Series ended in disappointment, however, as he crashed out after colliding with his teammate in Daniel Suarez towards the end of the race after an encouraging start.

The 18-year-old raced for Trackhouse Racing in the Cup Series, where he will be given further opportunities this season while concentrating on the Xfinity Series, but he failed to get off to a positive start.

Zilisch had crashed into Suarez’ right-rear side and sent him into the wall with the former’s vehicle bursting into flames, with both drivers being unharmed.

After the race, he received a message of confidence from two-time Cup Series winner and NASCAR legend in Kyle Busch, who tweeted: “Your future is bright, I too finished at the bottom in my Cup debut.”

Zilisch was pictured smiling and joking with Busch at one point, seemingly enjoying himself and picking up invaluable information while competing against the best drivers in the sport.

After the race, he said: “[I got to experience] Just how to race against veterans. You know, these guys all are very calculated and smart with the things they’re doing and I had a lot of fun getting to kind of experience that and learn from a lot of those guys. So, definitely a lot to take away from it but frustrated that it ended this early.”

The owner of Trackhouse Racing believes that he can win a championship in the Xfinity Series, the second-tier circuit of NASCAR in 2025.

Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks said: “We certainly want to give him as much opportunity as possible to get time in the cup car. But it’s also a little bit of balance for a couple reasons.

“One, we want him to stay focused on trying to win the Xfinity Series championship, and this is a guy that’s raced so many different types of cars and different types of races the last couple of years and hasn’t really had an opportunity to be singularly focused on one championship run like he does this year. So, we want to kind of eliminate distractions. And make sure he’s in a position where he can focus on that.”
