Entitled California unions will make any excuse to stop their members from (gasp!) returning to work within the workplace.

From rats and roaches to variety to childcare prices, union reps have dropped a litany of explanation why they shouldn’t must dress, commute in and show up, regardless of a state order to report to work 4 days a week beginning July 1, 2026.

The newest laugher: If they drive to work, their vehicles will emit carbon emissions, exacerbating climate change.

A union representing state legal staff now argues –– we child you not –– that a directive that state staff return to the workplace requires a thorough environmental review.

It’s an argument solely a lawyer may love.

The California Attorneys, Administrative Law Judges and Hearing Officers in State Employment (CASE) claims the return to work order requires review beneath CEQA, the state’s torturous environmental law.

In a scathing letter, the union known as the directive –– initially issued by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2024 –– “a discretionary decision that will have myriad environmental impacts that must be analyzed, disclosed, and mitigated.”

Well, that seems like a long course of. Perhaps the concept is to delay any actual obligation to show up till all present state staff have retired.

Naturally, the union threatens legal motion if the state declines to conform.

Hmm. Who precisely is in charge right here?

It doesn’t sound like Newsom or legislators, or the Californians who pay for all of it: salaries, empty state workplaces, litigation, CEQA critiques and more.

The union calls for land as self-centered, heavy-handed and really entitled.

Much of the personal sector returned to pre-COVID work norms years in the past. But state staff, in some way, deserve indefinite particular therapy?

And it’s arduous to see an order to show up 4 days a week as onerous; many private-sector working stiffs would like to work remotely 20% of the time.

Besides, employers ought to have the precise to find out this, maybe essentially the most fundamental of all employment situations.

Already, union reps’ stalling has delayed, for a yr, the implementation of the show-up-to-work order.

And by claiming now that vehicle emissions oblige staff to keep staying home, the unions have turned Newsom’s own climate zeal towards him.

It’s all peak absurdity.

CEQA, after all, is usually meant to deal with the environmental impacts of construction, public works and infrastructure initiatives –– not driving to current work websites.

And if state staff are so bothered by carbon emissions, maybe they need to invest in personal electric autos, or stroll, carpool, bicycle, curler skate, skateboard, or take a bus, practice or scooter to the workplace.

But actually, for union reps, the environmental-review demand is simply a pretext, one other excuse for doing what they need as a substitute of what’s proper or what’s best for Californians.

It’s clear that unionized state staff will go to extraordinary lengths to keep away from working in an precise workplace. Why?
