TOKYO (Reuters) -The greenback headed for its best week in nearly three years towards its main friends, sustaining momentum on Friday after U.S. President Donald Trump set new tariff charges on dozens of commerce companions.
The yen touched a four-month low towards the dollar, extending its steep decline from Thursday after the Bank of Japan signalled it was in no hurry to renew rate of interest hikes.
In trade-related strikes, the U.S. currency gained ground on the Swiss franc after Trump set a 39% tariff charge on Swiss imports, up from the 31% he beforehand mooted. Canada’s greenback dipped to a more than two-month trough after the nation obtained a 35% levy as a substitute of an earlier threatened 25%.
The euro remained pinned close to an nearly two-month low, as it continues to be weighed down by what markets see as a lopsided commerce settlement with Washington.
