Motorists have been advised to observe one foolproof technique to defrost their car door handles forward of potential snowThe Met Office has issued a yellow climate warning for Scotland and components of Northern England beginning on Saturday night.

A drop in temperatures are additionally anticipated due to arctic blasts, with the UK’s Health Security Agency issuing yellow health alerts for cold climate. The dip in temperatures is anticipated to massively affect street customers, with car windscreens and door handles at risk of freezing over.

However, Graham Conway, managing director at Select Car Leasing, has careworn street customers can use a easy hack if their door handles get caught in place. He defined that water can help soften any ice which may be caught across the lock, guaranteeing motorists can open their doorways with none problem.

Graham mentioned: “Pouring some hot – not boiling – water around the affected area can help the ice that’s causing the jam melt. However, this is a short-term solution, as once it cools, it will freeze over the existing ice making the problem worse.

“Make sure the water isn’t too hot, certainly is not boiling, and once you’ve got the door open be sure to dry down any wet surfaces to avoid more ice forming.”

Meteorologists have predicted that snow could possibly be “heavy at times”, whereas ice is claimed to be an “additional hazard”. They mentioned that northeast England and components of Scotland could be most affected by ice as “precipitation has the potential to fall on frozen ground leading to very slippery conditions”.

They defined: “In your emergency winter breakdown kit, it is good to have some de-icer or WD-40 to help free the lock so you can enter the vehicle – and remove any other ice that is stopping you from opening the door.

“If you do not have either of these items available, the best way to defrost it is to safely apply heat. You can either breathe on the lock – but if it is safe to use an extension lead and a hairdryer, then apply heat that way.

“However, be careful not to put the hairdryer right next to the lock. Due to the intense heat, it could melt the plastic or damage the electronics within the door or lock.”
