The son of NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick’s hopes of making the next big step of his promising motorsport career have been dashed.

Keelan Harvick was due to make his CARS Tour Pro Late Mode debut at New River All-American Speedway on Saturday, March 1. Heartbreakingly, however, the 12-year-old was forced to withdraw.

The 100-lap feature would have marked the first time young Keelan would drive a Pro Late Model after predominantly racing go-karts and Legends cars. Last November, he piloted his father’s No. 62 Hunt Brothers Pizza Chevrolet to an eighth-place finish at his first Limited Late Model start at Florence Motor Speedway.

Fans were very much looking forward to seeing the youngster hit the road in Jacksonville, North Carolina, with anticipation building ahead of the event. Sadly it never came to be – and no one was more gutted than Keelan.

He took to X to express his sincere disappointment at having to withdraw. In an official statement posted on the social media platform, the young racer revealed he is battling with a stomach bug.

“Unfortunately, my CARS Tour Pro Late Model debut is going to have to wait,” he wrote. “I’ve been battling a stomach bug for the last 24 hours, and I am not able to give 100% behind the wheel.

“I hoped I would feel good enough to race because I don’t want to let my Rackley WAR team down, but it wouldn’t be fair to them or my competitors to try to compete in this condition.”

The CARS tour, co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr, is one of the nation’s most demanding late-model circuits, where many promising NASCAR hopefuls have burst onto the scene. Ahead of the event, Keelan dedicated weeks of intense training to sharpen his driving skills, but the sudden illness proved too big a roadblock.

Despite this hurdle, Keelan seems to very much be on the right track to following in his dad’s footsteps and making a name for himself in the sport. His career started with go-karts where he enjoyed success competing across the US and Europe.

In 2023, he dominated the Legends Cars Young Lions division which set the tone for a phenomenal 2024 where he won 27 times in 49 starts.

Keelan also went on to win the INEX Young Lions Asphalt National Championship, as well as hitting the ground running in the Limited Late Model scene, only taking a few months to lift the title in Florence.
