When a volunteer joins one of our coaching applications, the very first thing she or he learns is that it isn’t about pretending to be powerful.
It’s about duty.
Team members prepare collectively for months. They study how to establish suspicious conduct, how to handle emergencies, and how to coordinate with law enforcement. They study self-discipline and humility.
Most importantly, they study that security is just not about energy.
It’s about service.
Some critics fear that having a neighborhood security group could lead on to vigilantism or pointless escalation.
That concern is precisely why severe coaching issues. Discipline, clear protocols and coordination with law enforcement are what make the model work.
And one thing attention-grabbing occurs when people prepare this manner.
Fear begins to fade.
Not as a result of threats disappear, however as a result of people stop feeling helpless.
I need my children to grow up feeling secure, not protected.
There’s a distinction.
