Jessica Pegula, the American tennis star, treated her fellow finalists at the ATX Open in Austin to a luxurious ride on her private jet.
After securing her seventh career title at the WTA 250 tournament by defeating McCartney Kessler 7-5 6-2, Pegula extended an invitation to her four fellow finalists to join her on a flight to California for The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.
This gesture was particularly appreciated by Chinese player Yuan Yue, who had just won her second career WTA doubles title.
She expressed her gratitude on social media, writing: “Praise Miss Pegula. Okay! ! !” and “She has invited all the players in today’s game (doubles final) to take a private plane together. Thank you so much! ! !”
She added that without Pegula’s offer, they would have faced a nine-hour car journey.
Zhang Shuai, who also joined the flight, commented on the difficulty of arranging travel after the doubles final, saying: “The final day girls discuss how flight to IW, many different ways, someone leave from Austin/ Houston/ Dallas, someone might need to transfer at LA in the middle night because it’s tough to get a flight after the doubles final.”
Pegula, who has amassed over $13 million in winnings, is the daughter of billionaire parents Terry and Kim Pegula – owners of NFL franchise Buffalo Bills and NHL team Buffalo Sabres.
Despite her wealth, the 2024 U.S. Open finalist has consistently pushed back against cynics who have questioned her motivation to succeed, labeling her the world’s richest tennis player.
