Register e-bikes

I used to be happy to learn Commissioner Jessica Tisch’s piece concerning the police cracking down on e-bike riders who disobey site visitors legal guidelines (“Cracking Down,” PostOpinion, May 15).

We don’t have enough police to effectively do that. However, we do have cameras; there may be a proposed law, being thought of by the City Council, that may make our streets safer.

It’s Priscilla’s Law — named after a girl who was hit and killed by an e-bike. This law would require licensing and registration for all e-bikes, so their house owners can be held accountable when caught on digital camera disobeying site visitors legal guidelines.

Don’t profile pitties

Banning pit bulls and different breeds isn’t the way in which to guard the group (“Crack Down on Deadly Dog Owners,” Editorial, May 12).

Just as a result of some locations enact breed bans doesn’t imply that they’re a data-based, efficient answer.

According to a current examine, breed accounts for under 9% of habits. Plus, breed identification might be extremely tough. A 2015 examine by Kimberly Olson measured the flexibility of shelter employees to accurately establish pit bulls, and then in contrast these assessments with the canines’ precise DNA outcomes, which revealed that solely 36% of the canines deemed pit bulls have been truly pit bulls.

Enforcing a breed ban can be pricey. Financial sources must be directed to issues that truly work — obligatory canine licensing, enforced leash legal guidelines, more oversight on canine preventing, legal guidelines that encourage spaying and neutering and legal guidelines that maintain people liable for the actions of their canine.

The Post ends its editorial with a sentence that makes more sense than an arbitrary pit-bull ban: “When pets become a menace, it’s the people who need to be held accountable.”

The proprietor of these canines on the Upper West Side is aware of they’re harmful. Hopefully somebody will step up to forestall such assaults sooner or later.

Pushing Powell

Bravo to President Trump for persevering with to struggle for the American people by leaning on Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell to decrease rates of interest (“Cut to the chase,” May 14).

The American people simply survived 4 hellish years below a presidential administration whose each resolution went towards their best pursuits.

Now, Trump has come into workplace and, like legendary school soccer coach Howard Schnellenberger, is whipping the financial system back into championship type.

And rates of interest for housing and autos — what is usually known as “the cost of money”— need to be dropped to pre-pandemic ranges. Then the US financial system will probably be operating on all cylinders, ushering within the Golden Age.

It’s clear Trump is doing all the pieces in his energy to completely maximize America’s financial potential.

Unions for sale

It’s attention-grabbing that the firefighters’ union, together with different giant unions, are endorsing former Gov. Andrew Cuomo for mayor (“Bravest side with Cuomo,” May 12).

Apparently they don’t care that he made a horrible resolution that contributed to the deaths of hundreds of our aged in nursing properties — and to today maintains his innocence. Nor have they got a downside relating to the sexual harassment of a number of ladies.

Just more proof that there are no ethical values within union management. All that issues is what guarantees authorities officers could make so as to add to their wallets with our tax money.
