JFK, LGA and EWR airports see ground stop over – Business News
WASHINGTON — A circuit failure brought about an hours-long ground stop Tuesday in any respect three main New York-area airports, snarling air journey throughout the US, officers stated.
The electrical challenge at a “single point of failure” led to loss of radio and radar tools at John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and Newark Liberty International Airport, FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford confirmed.
Making issues worse, officers found that a newly constructed fiberoptic backup system had been broken by construction work.
“Unfortunately, that circuit failed today,” Bedford stated. “And when it went to flip into the backup, we discovered that the backup fiber had a break.”
The FAA boss stated he anticipated that flights would resume someday after 1:30 p.m. ET, however added that it could take not less than 13 more hours to repair the backup system.
It was not instantly clear when the fiberoptic backup was severed.
