John Daly’s insight on golfing with Michael Jordan – Sports News
Michael Jordan has a “great swing” according to golfing veteran John Daly, who recently played a round of golf with the NBA legend.
Jordan, a six-time NBA winner, has played golf with several professionals who compete on the PGA Tour, but awkwardly snubbed F1 driver Lewis Hamilton after the pair agreed to tee-off together.
Jordan may be remembered for his decorated basketball career, which saw him win six championships with the Chicago Bulls, but he’s since branched out into other sports.
Jordan is currently a NASCAR team owner after launching 23XI Racing alongside Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin, and he’s also become addicted to golf.
“For a competitive junkie like me, golf is a great solution because it smacks you in the face every time you have accomplished something,” Jordan said of his love for golf back in 2005. “That, to me, has taken over a lot of that energy and competitiveness for basketball.”
It led to Jordan opening his own invite-only golf course, The Grove XXIII, but he recently met up with Daly at the Bob Hope Classic and impressed the golfing veteran. “I haven’t played with him at his course in 23 yet,” Daly said on the ‘Like A Farmer‘ podcast.
“But [I] played with him at the Bob Hope Classic. It was me, him, Joe Pesci, Rory Green and Charles Barkley. It was a blast. We played at Tamarisk Country Club, and I was lucky to shoot 63 that day and took a little bit off MJ.”
Jordan may have played golf with some high-profile celebrities, but Hamilton admitted in a recent interview that he was stood up by the NBA legend. In an interview with TIME Magazine, Hamilton revealed that he arranged to meet with Jordan at a golf course but the former basketball star “didn’t end up being there.”

Hamilton also shares a love for golf, and has been seen playing rounds alongside F1 colleague Lando Norris and NFL legend Tom Brady. However, ahead of his first season with Ferrari after departing Mercedes last year, his passion for golf will temporarily come to an end.
The seven-time F1 champion is tied with Michael Schumacher for world titles, and is desperate to become the first driver with eight championships. In order to boost his chances of winning another championship before the end of his career, Hamilton is limiting distractions and fully committing to the season ahead with Ferrari.
“I know exactly where the North Star is,” Hamilton said during his interview with TIME. “I know where I need to go. I know how to get there.
“It’s far, and it’s going to be tough to get there, but I know I’ve got all the ingredients, all the people, an amazing team around me. So it’s how much you want it. And I can’t express to you how much I want it.”
