Jon Jones accusation made by Tom Aspinall after – Sports News
Tom Aspinall continues to angle for a fight against UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and recently had a phone call with UFC bosses to try and get the fight over the line.
Interim champ Aspinall is waiting to book his next fight and is hoping that will be against Jones, but the two-weight champion has always insisted he wants ‘legacy fights’ rather than fighters he views as up-and-coming; like Aspinall.
As a result of Jones’ stalling, the title picture is unclear in the heavyweight division, with bosses seemingly reluctant to book a fight for Aspinall until they know what Jones is planning to do. The Brit hasn’t been shy about his desire to fight ‘Bones’, the man claimed by many to be the greatest of all time.
But now, it seems he’s willing to wait and bide his time rather than continuing to put the pressure on, explaining that as far as he’s concerned, he’s ready to go. Aspinall claims the only hold up at this point is Jones’ indecision over his next move.
It isn’t out of the question that Jones – whose only defeat in MMA came after a disqualification for an elbow the UFC now allows – retires rather than defend his belt again. The 36-year-old has stated in the past that he’d rather retire than fight Aspinall, but that may change if Dana White and the UFC meet his asking price.
Aspinall told his YouTube channel: “There’s a lot of people out there who know me mainly for talking about Jon Jones, which is a shame, because there’s a lot of stuff I’ve done in the UFC and I’m completely aware of that.”
“I’ve been staying away from the media and talking about Jon Jones a lot because in all honesty, I’m sick of talking about it myself.
“But there needs to be updates. I see a lot of articles online saying a load of different things that are just not true. It’s just not true.
“Where we’re at right now is I have spoke to the UFC on multiple occasions about this fight. I’m chasing it. I want the fight. I’ve been on record and said that I want the fight.
